What's a Hosted PBX Phone System?

A hosted pbx (or Virtual PBX) phone system connects your business VoIP phones to PSTN lines via your internet connection. The Hosted PBX is located in a secure datacentre with the PSTN lines, so your phones connect to it over the internet.

What's the difference between a hosted PBX and a traditional PBX?

The easiest explanation is a traditional PBX requires on-premise equipment that you need to manage and hosted does not.

What is the benefit over a traditional PBX?

No more costly PBX system to buy - instead you simply purchase the handsets, and for less than the price of the equivalent landline rental, you can have all the features of a PBX system.

What kind of internet connection do I need?

We recommend allowing a minimum speed of 90 Kbps (upload and download) per concurrent call. For example, for 10 concurrent calls, you will need 900Kbps of internet bandwidth (upload and download). Connections such as NBN, ADSL, Cable, Ethernet and Fiber-Optic connections will typically work well.

Overall, I have been very happy with MaxoTel. The features of the online PABX are really comprehensive and easy to use. Phone routing, deskphone management, IVR and time switching are all really great features. I run a phone system with 70 extensions and a hundred or so phone numbers and there is rarely something that I cannot achieve with Maxo. Their support services are excellent. I've never had to wait more than a few seconds to get to an Australian human. They are super helpful and friendly and they all know what they're doing. Given a choice, I'd choose them again.
